Overwhelm can, well, destroy you. So many thoughts and to-do's clamoring through your head, frustration mounting, anxiety levels building to the point of shutdown. So maybe that's what you need to do...shutdown.
fo Getting to a life of flourishing is not just about adding to your life. It's also about letting go of things that we believe have the power to keep us feeling powerless... like overwhelm.
Have you ever wondered if there was a purpose to overwhelm? I mean other than the fact that it causes you anxiety, discomfort, or a headache?
I mean a grander purpose. One that's hidden behind the crazy feelings that accompany it.
And I've come to believe that the grander purpose of overwhelm IS to shutdown.
"But why would I want to shutdown if I have so many things to do that I'm confused about WHAT to do? I can't afford that...my day can't just STOP!"
Ok, so what's happening that you CAN afford??
Not so wonderful things coursing through your body, like cortisol, a stress creating hormone, which in turn suppresses seritonin, a happy mood lifting hormone? Now, there's a stalemate.
Not getting ANYTHING done because the stress and cortisol is keeping you confused? And might I add, at a standstill anyway?
So really, how can you not afford to just stop so you can stop the madness?
I can. I have. And you know what I've discovered that has made it all worth it?
Guidance. Pure and simple. Downloads from the gods. Whatever you want to call it.
If I stop, shutdown my mind, and get grounded, I receive divine inspiration so I can get help figuring out what it is I need to do. Where I need to put my attention.
See, your higher power is trying to get in touch with you all the time.
It's trying to softly speak to you and tell you everything you need to know to move forward on this journey called life...WITHOUT all the confusion and overwhelm. And I mean everything.
Problem is you probably don't shutdown often enough to make the journey easier. You believe you know how to get through this life without help. But I beg to differ.
We ALL need help traversing through this thing called life. And by shutting down regularly, help happens.
The reason you get confused in the first place is you're fighting what your spirit and higher power want you to do because you THINK you're supposed to be doing something else. Following your own agenda.
But here's the cool thing. If you stop and close down, and listen, for even a minute or two, you'll FEEL what's right. And that folks is divine guidance. A FEELING. Not a "thinking".
Now one thing you have to keep in mind is to go with the flow. If divine guidance is saying you need to go for a drive instead of answering all your emails, then go for a drive! And you need to let go of guilt. I've been told to watch a movie instead of working on my blog. At first I felt a little guilty because I have clients that depend on me to share info on how to have a better more flourishing life, but...
I watched the movie and the blog came out of what I watched! And it came out like water pouring from the sink! Miraculous? Well, if you're not used to it, yeah. But without listening to that "still small voice" I would never have written the blog I was inspired to write that really helped my clients have a better more flourishing life!
So, you've got to shutdown and listen. And don't fight it. Your higher power is wanting to make your life easier.
One of the quickest ways to shutdown and get into a download preparation state is by petting your dog. I think you know the routine by now. If not, or if you want a refresher, here's one of my blogs that shows you how. It's simple, quick, and like babies, they are closer to that source of inspiration...download enhanced! Now listen, and feel what happens next...
I'd love to hear what you have to say about what happened in one of your download moments. When you stopped and listened to the feeling of what you needed to do. Were you surprised? Was it hard or easy? What wonderful thing came out of it?
My kickoff teleseminar for The Canine Flourishing Secret is coming up quickly, I'll be posting about the date soon, so until then give me your feed back. Me and the dogs greatly appreciate it!
