My mind slowly became aware. I peek through my lashes and see only darkness. "Ugh", I whisper into the wee hours of night. My stomach tightened as I braced myself for what was coming next.
Thoughts suddenly stab at my sleepy brain penetrating the darkness and snapping my once quiet mind to full alert. I feel helpless against the attack. "Who do you think YOU are, believing you have an idea you want to share with the world??" "What gives you the right to slack off doing what you're supposed to be doing??" "Why haven't you called your friend back??" "What gives you the right to just lay here??.. you have so much to do!" My whole body tremors with the anxiety, moving around as though a more comfortable spot will stop the attack. Not. It's a full on war and at this point there's no escape.
Except. ..my hand comes down on something soft. My sister's dog, Dot. Her tiny Pomeranian form curled up against my now tight, queasy stomach. Feeling her there, I slowly begin stroking her puffy warmness and my mind, focusing on her softness, begins a retreat from the pummeling thoughts. She's like a little calm spot that's appeared and I feel some reprieve as my breath goes from tight and shallow to a little looser. Focusing on my hand as it slowly travels head to tail...head to tail. ..feeling the warmth...letting go of the negative onslaught. ..breathing deeper. ...slower. Thoughts tapering off...body feeling heavier, more relaxed. ..stomach loosening its grip.
Surrounding myself with Dot. Letting go of everthing but her. Feeling her pull of calmness as she shares her soothing breathing. I've found a very comfortable spot. The thoughts are now just pings, bouncing off my mind. As the last thought bounces off and disappears into the darkness, I feel Dot's breath in a soothing rhythm with mine. And with my hand resting in her puffy warmness I too disappear into the darkness.
Ever have those mornings? Those attacks? This was my scenario this morning. Many mornings, being bombarded with negative thoughts AND finding peace through a dog. And this is exactly why I am bringing this power that dogs share, to anyone who will listen. This is a power that we are meant to tap into.
So next time you wake up all anxious and fearful with thoughts attacking, pull your dog close and let him share his peace. That's what he's there for.

The Canine Flourishing Secret
Although I have a flourishing life now as an energy practitioner, vibrational medicine researcher, and coach sharing the secret to flourishing with dogs I had to hit rock bottom first. Going through the muck and mire, was when I discovered the secret power of dogs and the energy field they share with us in order to help us thrive in life.
Through my work with dogs, and my study of energy fields that surround all things, animate and inanimate, and the power these enery fields have to heal us body, mind, and spirit, I learned how to tap into this healing energy with dogs. Now I want to share that secret with you and everyone on the planet! Not only so all of us can thrive and live the flourishing lives we all deserve and were all meant to live, but also so we can see these loving beings as a powerful commodity, to create a burning desire to share life with a dog and thereby create flourishing loving forever homes. They deserve that.
